Fata Morgana greenhouse in Prague – visit tropical rain forest in Europe
Fata Morgana greenhouse in Prague is a paradise for lovers of plants of strange shapes, colors and scents. Tropical rainforest in Fata Morgana greenhouse is situated on the sunny southern slope of the Troja district in Prague, The Czech Republic.
Modern building with an unusual S-shaped ground plan is part of the botanical garden. The rear wall of the greenhouse is made of a rock surface to which it is embedded.

About Fata Morgana greenhouse
The greenhouse is 130 meters long, 17 meters wide and 11 meters high. It was opened in June 2004. The interior of the greenhouse is divided into three distinct parts with different temperature and humidity. You will walk through the vegetation of tropical and partially subtropical regions.
You will step on the Australian bush and learn something about rare flora of the island of Madagascar. Then you will see the vegetation of southern Mexico and some areas of Africa.

In the middle part of the greenhouse there is a lowland rainforest of humid tropics. The tropical forests are connected by underground tunnel cut into the rock with two large freshwater aquariums which is a home to tropical fish and other animals.
The largest part of the tropical forest is made up of plant communities from South America and selected parts of Central America. Other parts include flora of Australia and Oceania, Africa and Madagascar, Vietnam, Sunda Islands and the Philippines.

You can also stop at the panoramic terrace and absorb the atmosphere of the forest with the sounds of the nearby waterfall. The last cooled part of the greenhouse is dedicated to the harsh environment of high mountains.

Trip to the tropical nature is a dream of many travelers and it is now possible all year round in Fata Morgana greenhouse. It is also wheelchair accessible. There is a cloakroom, refreshments and guides.
There are several events in the greenhouse and botanical gardens throughout the year such as night guided tour, exhibition of tropical butterflies and other.

The chilled section is the last part of the greenhouse, presenting the harsh environment of high mountains. Examples of the flora of South American Andes and alpine regions of both mainland and island Asia and subtropical South Africa are displayed in this section.

It’s a great place in Prague worth visiting especially during the cold winter months. It is close to Botanical garden and Prague ZOO so only here in this area of Prague you will have something to do for few days.
