Luxury Spain Holidays – How we spent our most luxurious holidays in Santa Pola Life Resort

It was back in 2010 when we went for our 2 weeks Luxury Spain Holidays. Although the start wasn’t so amazing as we missed the flight and had to pay 100,-EUR extra to Ryanair for re-booking, but the end was so surprising and beautiful that it couldn’t end up better!

This is a true story of our way to Spain, how we stayed at our friends’ flat in Elche and how we finally moved to luxury Santa Pola Life Resort!

Our way from Prague to Elche

Few months before departure we bought cheap flight tickets from Frankfurt-Hahn to Alicante, where we were planning to spend 2 weeks of our summer vacations. Months passed and the first day of our holidays was finally here.

We got in our car early in the morning in Prague and the journey began. There were around 650 kilometers waiting for us on the road and then additional 1,700 kilometers in the air.

On this day, however, our plans were almost completely broken!

Everything was perfectly prepared, packed and planned. Except for one thing. The traffic jam. We stuck in the horrible traffic jam somewhere in Germany. With no moving at all for two hours, our plans started to fall through.

Traffic jam finally ended and we still had some hope to catch our flight. Unfortunately we didn’t and it was the first plane we have ever seen to have left on time. It was around 11’o clock in the morning and fortunately there was another plane leaving few hours later.

Although not to Alicante this time, but to Valencia which was some 170 kilometers from our holiday destination. Better 170 kilometers away than 1,700, right? We paid additional 100,-EUR/person to Ryanair for re-booking and the journey could continue.

Frankfurt-Hahn airport is well equipped with lots of parking space and the parking fee for two weeks starts at 52,-euro per car and 2 weeks (actual prices from December 2015).

Finally we arrived to Valencia, catch the bus to Elche (near Alicante) and arrived to our friend’s flat late in the night. The holidays were perfect there, but their flat was situated in the city of Elche and we had to use their car to move to the beach and surroundings.

So after the first week we decided to find some accommodation that is closer to the beach.

We opened booking.com and started to search for some available hotels. The price was one of the main criteria and Santa Pola Life Resort (now known as Santara Resort & Spa) came on top of the list.

So we booked a room and the other day we moved to our new accommodation. And what a great decision it was!

Santa Pola Life Resort is not a hotel but actually a resort with many small or larger bungalows which are perfectly set in the well maintained garden around wellness center and outdoor relaxation pool.

Spa center with hot tub, sauna and Turkish bath is something you have on offer here as well.

Usually I prefer staying in the campsites which are also set in the gardens. This allows you to spend more time outside yet surrounded by the nature and this resort was very similar (except for the tents they had bungalows for us :)).

This time, however, we absolutely forgot to remember any campsite in the world.

We had nice terrace at the bungalow for evening drink and breakfast. There was an equipped kitchen, large (but really large) corner shower or sofa with TV (which we never used).

But the most important from all this stuff was amazing, about 45 centimeters high luxury healthy mattress which we enjoyed the most!

Unlike other hotels and resorts, this one really figured out how to make their customers’ nights healthy, pleasing and how to make guests really happy! They figured out that sleeping is one of the main purposes the hotels and resorts serve to!

Until then we have never thought how important the mattress is for the sleep. And to be honest we have never slept on such luxury mattress again. 🙂 But we will definitely never forget this!

Apart from this beautifully and usefully furnished bungalows or wonderful gardens they also had another great present prepared for us.

And that was a large relax and swimming outdoor pool with jacuzzi and fyrefly jets. We were staying in this resort in the middle of June 2010 so there were just few people here at all.

They also had a wellness and spa center which we haven’t used as we spent majority of our time in the relax pool and at the sea and we only had 4 days.

Anyway this was far enough for us to enjoy our Spanish holidays and next time we know exactly where to go for our holidays.

Usually I don’t write a review on a hotel, or holiday resort, but this one was so great that I just had to! It was definitely one of our best holidays and most luxurious ones that me and my wife ever had.

The price was 176,-eur per two persons and 4 nights at that time (I checked the prices now and we would pay 204,-eur for the same bungalow and the same dates if booked now for June 2016, which is still fine). And once you are in Santa Pola, you should definitely pay a visit to nearby Alicante, or to L’Oceanografic in Valencia to see great dolphin shows.
