Are you traveling to Zurich anytime soon? Discover our guide to the best places to stay in Switzerland’s most populous city.
It’s not necessarily the first city you’d think of for an urban break, and yet… The beautiful city of Zurich has an eyeful of charms to offer. One of the country’s leading economic hubs, Zurich enjoys an ideal geographical location, surrounded by a superb lake and beautiful mountains. Are you currently looking for the best place to stay in Zurich? If you prefer to stay in the heart of the city, close to the main attractions, head for the old town. As for party-goers, art aficionados, fashion, and design lovers choose Zurich West, the city’s trendiest district. Looking for a quiet atmosphere? Seefeld is the place to go.
Often listed as one of the most expensive cities in the world, Zurich is home, not surprisingly, to many overpriced hotels. However, by choosing other alternatives such as youth hostels, you can easily find a place to sleep in this charming city.

For visitors looking for a lively and central location, the Niederdorf district in the old town is arguably the ideal choice to stay in Zurich. Filled with medieval alleyways, colorful houses, and luxury boutiques, Niederdorf is a great place to stroll. Discover the main tourist attractions of the city, such as the Grossmünster cathedral. If you plan to stay in Niederdorf, make sure you have the budget. Its ideal location makes it one of the most expensive residential areas in Zurich. For those traveling on a limited budget who would still like to stay in the old town, seek other alternatives such as homestay accommodation.

Lindenhof, also located in the old town, is the perfect place for travelers keen to stay in Zurich in a quiet and peaceful area. From Lindenhof, you can also enjoy an incredible view of the city center’s most impressive historical landmarks: the Grossmünster, the town hall, or the Limmat river. Zurich’s Lindenhof district is a great place to stay in Zurich if you’re looking for a peaceful and quiet environment in the city center. Here too, because of its very central position, this district offers rather expensive accommodation rates.

Head west from Zurich, to stay in the trendiest and most fashionable part of the city. Formerly devoted to industry, this district has for the last few years given way to art, culture, design, and architecture. Don’t forget to stop by the Im Viadukt Market, a vast covered market featuring a blend of delicatessens, trendy cafés, nightclubs, fashion boutiques and art galleries. It will obviously be cheaper to stay in Zurich in the western part rather than in the center, however, keep in mind that it is still Zurich: accommodation will remain relatively very high. So make sure to look for alternatives to the hotel if you want to stay in this area.

Looking for a place to stay in Zurich, away from the city center? Head for Seefeld, a charming district situated at the edge of the lake. Living in this part of Zurich will allow you to enjoy nature while staying close to the main attractions. From here, you can also discover the incredible Chinese garden – China Garten -, a garden donated by the Chinese city of Kunming to the city of Zurich.
