Suchá Belá – the most famous gorge in the Slovak Paradise National Park

Suchá Belá is the name of perhaps the most famous gorge in the Slovak Paradise National Park. It is also one of the largest and most beautiful gorges, which can be accessed thanks to a numerous ladders, walkways, bridges and chains.

The tour starts in Hrabušice-Podlesok, where you need to follow the green hiking trail. It is not a difficult tour but in some places it is quite dangerous and requires courage. As in other tours through the Slovak Paradise National Park even here you will need good hiking boots.

Hiking paradise Suchá Belá

The whole trail leads through the stream Suchá Belá, which is full of stones, fallen trees and, of course, water which you will need to pass on your way. If you come here during some rainy days you will likely need to step deeper into the water to pass some places so take high, waterproof and anti-slip boots.

The hiking trail takes you through some of the most beautiful parts of the national park. The gorge is really narrow in some places and you will also need to overcome heights with quite high ladders.

You will see lots of waterfalls, rock formations, holes, and other natural creations. The hiking trail is one-way only so you cannot go back once you get on the top of the gorges. You will have to choose a different way for your return. There are, fortunately, lots of other options.

You can then continue further to Kláštorisko and get back to Podlesok through Prielom Hornádu.

Suchá Belá gorge is 4 kilometers long and it takes approximately 2 hours to get to its top from the bottom. We chose the shortest hiking trail for our return so we did the whole tour in 4 hours.

Suchá Belá is definitely one of the most popular gorges in the Slovak Paradise National Park and it can be really crowded. But we started our tour early in the morning (6AM) and haven’t met anybody.
