Hotel Magura, Ždiar

Hotel Magura in Ždiar is my first tip that I can only recommend to anyone coming to Slovakia. It seems that the time in this hotel has stopped some 50 years ago when it was built. I think that this can only be an advantage in these days (as it’s different) and the hotel should retain its old appearance for the future as well.

However the main advantage of this hotel is its location within healthy forests of High Tatras National Park, featured with wonderful clear mountain stream flowing nearby, playground for kids and its proximity to the rural village of Ždiar. The hotel is located away of the busy roads, on the end of dead end street, so everything you will hear here will be a quietness. And from the balcony, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountains.

Mountain hotel Popradské Pleso

If there is any place in the High Tatras where you should go on some of your first hiking trips, then it has to be Popradské Pleso. It takes about one hour to get here from Štrbské Pleso and it serves also as a great starting point for further tours into the surrounding mountains.

You will easily fall in love with the scenery here, the glacial lake, the mountains as well as clear air. Let’s try Mountain hotel Popradské Pleso and you won’t regret it!

Mountain hotel Sliezsky dom is another place where you will want to stay. The highest situated hotel in Slovakia (1670 meters above sea level) is thanks to its location also a popular starting point for challenging hikes including a guided tour to the highest peak of Slovakia, Gerlachovský štít (2,654 meters).

Mountain Hotel Bilíkova Chata, High Tatras

Mountain Hotel Bilíkova Chata is situated in a beautiful place at an altitude of 1255 meters above sea level. It is an ideal place for those who want to stay far away of the cars and busy resorts.

You can get here by funicular from Starý Smokovec to Hrebienok and then follow green hiking trail.

Chata pri Zelenom plese

When we talk about the most romantic and beautiful places in all of Slovakia, then we must talk about Zelené pleso glacial lake (1551 meters above sea level). On its shores is a mountain cottage known as Chata pri Zelenom plese that offers hostel-type accommodation.

During the summer months, you can get there by bike following cycling trail from Tatranské Matliare or hike from Skalnaté Pleso glacial lake as well as from other places.
